In deze 5e editie van Braun* Flatground is, op de zaterdagavond, de Gashouder van de Westergasfabriek te Amsterdam het speelveld van de 'pro flatlanders*'. In een 1 op 1 battle strijden 16 gasten al freestylend op een BMX voor 12.500 euro. De show wordt aan elkaar geluld door niemand minder dan Scott O'Brien, die al 15 jaar flatland riding achter hem heeft liggen. Onder de strijdende pro's zit één Nederlander: Bram Verhallen (Nederlands Kampioen). Helaas moet hij het al snel afleggen tegen zijn tegenstander. Drie juryleden, waaronder James Alberto, bepalen iedere keer wie er doorgaat. Uiteindelijk blijkt Spanjaard Vicky Gomez de beste, achter hem eindigt de Japanner York Uno en als derde de Amerikaan Pete Brandt.

* Wat betekent Flatland? "Flatland BMX is the most technical style of BMX riding. Flatlanders perform on smooth, flat pieces of ashphalt, which is where the style got it's name. Riders link together rolling, jumps and tricks. The sport requires great balance, agility and patience. In competitions, riders get points for smoothly linking tricks together and they lose points everytime they touch the ground. A bike used in flatlanding has one or two pegs off the side of the front and back wheels, which are used to hold the rider's body in place. - kidzworld.com"
